The cakes are made on any special occasion, such as children's birthday parties. For Valentine you have this Red velvet cake, one of the most classic on these dates, with a step by step so you can surprise your guests.

The Red Velvet cake will be a lot of fun for children, as its white exterior hides a colorful red cake inside, which creates a nice contrast. A very easy recipe to prepare, you just have to follow the step by step and you will succeed with a very special dessert.

  • 280 gr. Of flour
  • 125 gr. butter or margarine
  • 300 gr. of sugar
  • 275 ml. by buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 20 gr. of cocoa powder and 10 gr. vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 lemon
  • 3 teaspoons yeast and 1 teaspoon baking soda

1. First mix the dry ingredients: the flour, the cocoa and the vanilla sugar (if it is essential, mix with the wet ones), the yeast and the bicarbonate.

2. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk (it can be made at home with milk and a tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon, leave it for about 5 min. Until the milk seems cut) with the lemon juice and then the beaten eggs. Add the red food coloring and mix well so that the color is uniform.

3. Mix the butter or margarine with the sugar until you get a creamy mixture, add the flour and the dyed buttermilk, mix well until you have a liquid and homogeneous dough.

4. Preheat the oven to 175ºC. Divide the dough into 3 greased molds, better if they are removable, so that the same amount remains in each one. Bake for about 20 or 30 minutes, let cool and put in the fridge wrapping each cake in plastic wrap.

5. Make a cream cheese to fill. For this you will need 400 gr. of cream cheese, 450 gr. of icing sugar and 150 of butter. Mix it well with the mixer. Another less traditional option is to use whipped cream with sugar, especially to coat the cake.

6. Remove the cakes and level them if necessary with a knife or mandolin. Pour a little cream on the plate so that the cake sticks. Alternate layers of sponge cake with cream, spreading it over the surface without reaching the edge and pressing lightly.

7. Cover the outside of the cake, give a first layer and then a thicker one, of cream or whipped cream, until it is completely covered. Decorate to your liking, and keep in the fridge until serving.
